THE PAST

Power Touch was born from the unstoppable urge of bassist Vincent Watté to create music. In 1985 he played with Cromwell, where he took his first steps in the Belgian rock scene.

A year later the band recorded their first single, but it was the arrival of singer Marc "Max" Brants that truly set everything ablaze. Together with Max they adopted the name of his previous band, Cognac, which had already secured three tracks on compilation LPs, including Rhino, Everytime (produced by Leo Caerts) and The Runner.

The group went through its first major change: Several members left, but new talent emerged. With fresh energy and new ambitions the band renamed itself Power Touch.

In 1988 they entered the studio with producer Peter Bulkens and Jean Marie Blanckaert (brother of Will Tura). The result was the LP Down and Out and the single Minnie The Moocher, released in 1989.

Live shows followed, dreams grew, but as so often with young bands the story slowly faded into the silence of everyday life.

Old Friends and New Faces

For the reunion Vincent needed musicians. He began a musical journey that became both nostalgic and unexpectedly emotional.

  • Chris De Turck, a friend from Vincent's very first band Gateway, returned after twenty five years of silence and brought back his unmistakable solo sound. (With thanks to Carla, Vincent's partner, who kept encouraging him to contact Chris.)

New energy also came through:

  • Pieter Jan De Paepe, Our lead singer and storyteller. His voice breathes life into our lyrics, giving a soul to the feelings we sometimes keep to ourselves.
  • Vassili Golfidis, Our drummer, brought into the fold by Peter. He is the heartbeat of the band, guiding our movement with a rhythm that ensures we are always pushing forward.
  • Pallieter Van Buggenhout, An extraordinaire guitarist and visionary producer. Pallieter is the architect of our evolution, the one who meticulously shaped our new sound, finding the perfect textures to match the emotions we strive to capture.
  • Pedro Gordts, Our keyboardist and a vital new pulse in the core lineup. His melodies add a depth and resonance that invites listeners to lose themselves in the landscape of our music.

And of course the people behind the scenes:

  • Peter Bulkens, Our steady hand at the controls since 1988. Peter is more than an engineer; he is a constant pillar of wisdom and support who has walked every step of this journey with us.
  • Carla Cannaerts, The heart behind the scenes. Carla provides unwavering support, lends her voice to our recordings with beautiful backing vocals, and helps ensure that the spirit of this project remains strong.
  • Killian De Sitter, Our visual chronicler. Through his lens, the emotions behind our music are captured in photographs and videos, turning our fleeting moments into lasting art.

A Tribute to Max

A deep driving force behind the reunion is also the loss of Max, the original singer, who passed away in 2009. His voice, rediscovered on the old tapes, gave Power Touch its soul back. The restart thus became a tribute to him, a way to let his voice resonate once more in the world he helped shape.

The Spark That Restarted Everything

Many years later Vincent decided that Power Touch should not disappear.

That the story was unfinished.

It began with one idea: to rediscover and release the old songs.

He went to the basement of Leo Caerts, where they searched through hundreds of studio tapes. On the very last reels they found the unthinkable: the 24-track master tape of Close Your Eyes. That moment set everything in motion again.

The recordings were digitized and the track was rebuilt using Max's original voice. New versions followed, acoustic interpretations by Tom Lodewijk and fresh arrangements. Vincent also decided to remake With Other People in Other Places, shorter, stronger and more modern.

New Music New Hope

With the original recordings rediscovered, new musicians on board and old friendships restored, Power Touch began a resurrection no one had expected. String arrangements, new studio recordings, modern production, collaboration with major names such as Steve Willaert, the project grew into something far bigger than a simple nostalgia trip. It became a promise. A tribute. A second chance. And for Vincent it also became a way to show that his music never stopped living, even when the world seemed to fall silent for a while.

The Story Continues

What once began as a dream in the eighties has grown into a project that connects generations: old friends, new musicians, producers, legends and fans.

Power Touch is back. Not as a copy of the past, but as a band that proudly carries its history and is ready to let its music shine once again.
